A wide, moderately steep forest path leads through the Kötschachtal to the Alpengasthof Prossau. If you love beautiful views, however, first keep left just after the Grüner Baum and hike on the Luis-Trenker-Weg to the enchanting „Malerwinkel” with old farmhouses above which tower the Himmelwand and Tischler Group, a carved trail cross and the Kötschachtal Chronicle, a metal book that’s definitely worth looking through. In an arc, we make our way back to the main path. Through shaded forest, we then walk alongside the Kötschacher Ache with its pools and smoothed rocks. At the Alpengasthof, it is worth hiking south down the forest path to the upper Prossau, an impressive valley basin with steep walls and waterfall.
