Great views and sun connect the beautifully landscaped path, always on the western edge of the trail leading along Gamskarkogel to Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein. The most beautiful way to reach the Höhenweg from Bad Hofgastein leads from the parish church past the cemetery, through Marienwald forest to Café Gamskar. On the well maintained hiking path, we walk along the western flank of the Gamskarkogel to Bad Gastein’s Café Gamskar. The views are magnificent, plus there are small attractions on the trail’s edge: Lovingly restored mills, a deer feeding station, sparse mountain forest, sunny flower-covered meadows and beautiful farms.
Especially interesting: the narrow canyons with their clearly visible strata of rock: the Höhenweg was daringly built through Gadauner canyon where the road was blown up to vertical walls and once even passed through a tunnel; somewhat less spectacular but equally magical is the canyon outside Remsach. Shortly after Café Gamskar (Bad Gastein) we walk for a bit on the asphalt road, but soon it turns right back on a trail leading towards to Hotel Grüner Baum/Kötschachtal.
Tip: Descend from Cafe Gamskar to Badbruck, back to Bad Hofgastein along the "River Gasteiner Ache" (Gastein hiking book tour 26).
Of course you also can start the hike from Bad Gastein Kötschachtal!
